Support to present your protection needs and understand the next stage of your claim.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Seeking protection involves explaining experiences that may be difficult to discuss. Whalebone Associates approaches asylum enquiries with care, taking time to understand your account, immigration history and any communication needs.

We can assist with evidence preparation, statements and representations, and preparation for an asylum interview. We also advise on further submissions and possible fresh claims where appropriate. For families separated by displacement, we can review existing reunion applications and consider currently available family routes; availability and eligibility must be checked before applying.

Immigration Detention & Bail

Practical legal support for people in detention and those assisting them.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Detention, removal directions and bail conditions can make it difficult to know what to do next. Many Whalebone Associates clients are in Immigration Removal Centres, and enquiries may come directly from the person detained or through a family member or referrer.

We can review the circumstances, discuss immigration bail and prepare applications, variation requests or urgent representations where appropriate. We can also advise on related reporting conditions, address notifications, permission-to-work enquiries and Home Office correspondence. Tell us the IRC name and any urgent date. Bail does not itself give permission to work or remain in the UK.

Family & Partner Visas

Support with applications that affect your ability to build family life together in the UK.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Joining a partner, remaining with family or making an application for a child involves more than completing a form. The appropriate route and evidence depend on your relationship, immigration history and personal circumstances.

Whalebone Associates can advise on partner and family applications, children’s immigration matters and enquiries following bereavement or domestic abuse. We review your situation, discuss the available route and help prepare the application and evidence. Sensitive circumstances are approached with care, with clear advice about the work required.

Visit Visas

Prepare a visitor application that clearly explains your plans and circumstances.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

A short UK visit may involve a holiday, time with relatives, permitted business activities or plans to marry. The right application depends on what you intend to do during your stay.

Whalebone Associates can help you explain the purpose and length of the visit, how it will be funded and your plans to leave afterwards. We review supporting documents, assist with the application and prepare representations where needed. If you have been refused before, we can examine the decision and identify matters that need addressing before a further application.

Student Visas

Plan your studies in the UK with a clear understanding of the immigration steps involved.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Starting a course, continuing your studies or considering a switch from another immigration category can raise different visa questions. Your proposed course, education provider and current status all need to be considered.

Whalebone Associates can assess your circumstances, explain the requirements relevant to your application and help organise the supporting documents. We can assist with preparing a Student visa application, including an extension or an eligible switch, and discuss any previous refusal or immigration history that may affect your plans.

Advice on EUSS status, residence evidence and family-related enquiries.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Questions about settled or pre-settled status can affect your work, studies and family plans. An enquiry may concern moving to settled status, an existing application, a late application or a family member seeking to join you.

Whalebone Associates can review your residence and family history, assess the relevant requirements and help prepare an application where appropriate. We also welcome enquiries about retained rights and EUSS refusals. Any challenge or review depends on the decision, the available procedure and the applicable deadline.

Settlement & British Citizenship

Consider your options for long-term residence and British nationality.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Settlement and citizenship are distinct steps, each with its own requirements. The right approach may depend on your residence, immigration history, existing permission and family circumstances.

Whalebone Associates can assess enquiries involving long residence, protection status, partner routes, naturalisation and children’s nationality. We explain the information needed, help prepare the application and supporting evidence, and draft representations where appropriate. Where a previous decision or an apparent Home Office error creates a difficulty, we can discuss how it may need to be addressed.

Work Visas

Immigration advice to support your next professional move.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Starting work in the UK, moving between employers or extending an existing visa can involve different immigration requirements. Your role, sponsorship arrangements and current permission need to be considered together.

Whalebone Associates can discuss Skilled Worker and other work-related enquiries, including a proposed move to a UK employer. We assess the circumstances, identify the relevant supporting information and help with application preparation where appropriate. We explain the proposed scope of assistance before work begins, so you and your employer understand the next steps.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Recruiting overseas staff, considering a sponsor licence or developing a business in the UK can involve significant immigration responsibilities. The appropriate advice depends on the organisation, proposed activity and people involved.

Consultancy for Law Firms

Focused drafting and casework assistance for legal professionals.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

An urgent deadline, a substantial evidence bundle or a complex refusal may call for additional immigration and asylum support. We welcome enquiries from solicitors, immigration advisers and other legal professionals.

Whalebone Associates can discuss refusal reviews, grounds of appeal, skeleton arguments, representations, witness statements and pre-action correspondence, subject to the work being within our authorisation and agreed scope. Responsibilities, instructions, timescales and confidentiality arrangements are established at the outset. Please agree a secure transfer method before sharing client papers.

Administrative Review

Understand whether a review or another response is available after an immigration decision.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

A suspected caseworking error, an unresolved delay or an adverse decision can disrupt important plans. Administrative review is available only for eligible decisions; it is not a general remedy for every refusal or delay.

Whalebone Associates can examine the decision and correspondence, explain the available options and help prepare an administrative review or appropriate reconsideration request. Where suitable, we can draft representations or correspondence addressing an identified error. Send us the decision date and any stated deadline when making your enquiry.

Appeals & Tribunal Representation

Careful preparation when an immigration or asylum decision needs to be challenged.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

A refusal may affect your protection claim, family life or future in the UK. Understanding the reasons for the decision and whether you have a right of appeal is an important first step.

Whalebone Associates can assess the proposed appeal, discuss its strengths and difficulties, and help prepare the documents and supporting evidence. Where instructed and appropriate, we can assist with tribunal representation. Contact us promptly with the decision and the date you received it, as the route and deadline depend on your circumstances.

Human Rights & Private Life

Advice that considers the wider impact of an immigration decision on your life.

How we can help

How Whalebone Associates can help

Some matters involve circumstances that need consideration beyond a straightforward visa application. Relevant issues may include family relationships, children, health and the life a person has established in the UK.

Whalebone Associates can assess those circumstances and discuss whether a human-rights or private-life application is appropriate. We help identify the evidence required and prepare applications and representations explaining the relevant grounds. Each case requires an individual assessment; difficult circumstances alone do not guarantee permission to stay.

14 / NEW EVIDENCE

Further submissions

Advice where new information may matter to a previously refused asylum claim.

How we can help

New evidence or a change in circumstances may need careful assessment after an asylum claim has been refused. We can discuss further submissions and whether your evidence may support a fresh claim. New material does not automatically lead to a fresh claim or a grant of permission.

  • Reviewing previous decisions and evidence
  • Assessing what has changed
  • Preparing relevant supporting material

IMMIGRATION DETENTION & BAIL

In detention?
Let’s discuss your options.

Much of our work is with clients in Immigration Removal Centres. You, a family member or a referrer can contact us to discuss an enquiry.

We can review the documents relating to your detention, discuss bail and consider how your asylum or immigration matter fits into the wider picture.

  • Tell us where you are. Give the name of the IRC and a safe way to contact you.
  • Flag any deadline. Let us know about removal directions, a hearing or a Home Office deadline straight away.
  • Explain what support you need. Tell us about language, health or communication needs that may affect a consultation.
Call about a detention matter

If a deadline is imminent, do not rely on an unanswered email. Seek prompt legal assistance. An enquiry alone does not confirm that we are acting for you.

We work with clients in Immigration Removal Centres and welcome contact from families, community organisations and professional referrers. Whether you reach us by phone, WhatsApp or a visit to our office, we aim to make the first step straightforward and explain whether we can assist.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A little clarity
before you call.

These are general starting points. Advice about your case depends on its particular circumstances.

Can I contact you for someone in an IRC?

Yes. Family members, friends and referrers can make an initial enquiry. Tell us the person’s name, the centre where they are held and how they can be contacted. We will discuss consent and authority before accepting instructions or sharing confidential case information.

Does immigration bail decide my asylum claim?

No. Immigration bail concerns release from detention, subject to conditions. It does not itself grant permission to stay or resolve an asylum claim. The underlying immigration matter still needs attention. Read the GOV.UK guide to immigration bail.

What if I have a refusal or removal date?

Contact us promptly and explain the date, the decision you received and whether you are detained. Different decisions have different deadlines and routes to challenge them. Do not assume that sending an enquiry extends a deadline or stops removal. Official information on immigration appeals.

What should I have ready for a consultation?

If available, have your Home Office reference, recent decision letters, detention or bail documents, hearing notices and a brief timeline ready. Let us know if you cannot access documents or need language support. Agree a secure way to share sensitive material with us first.

Can I visit without an appointment?

We welcome walk-ins at our Ilford office. An adviser may be occupied with another client, so calling ahead is helpful if you need to speak to someone at a particular time.

What will advice or representation cost?

Contact us to discuss the work required and the applicable fees. The scope of work and costs will be agreed before we begin. If you need publicly funded help, you can also use the official legal aid adviser finder.
